Goddess Circle #220 - Haumea

Wednesday, 08 May 2013 14:38 | Written by Sr. Dea Alea | PDF Print E-mail

Join the OOLS on Monday, May 13, 2013 as we celebrate the Polynesian Goddess Haumea. As the Goddess of birth and fertility, she taught women how to give birth.

Haumea became the Hawaiian people's divine midwife and the mother of the Hawaiian people. She was able to give birth from all parts of her body suggesting her overwhelming fertility. Ageless and ever-renewing, Haumea teaches us how to give birth to the powerful stories of our own lives.

As Dr. Amy Palko tells us "To give birth is, perhaps, the most sacred act we can perform in this lifetime. Bringing into the world new life is truly a gift of the goddess. And yet, we so often perceive of this new life in very narrow terms.

"In this story of the divine midwife, I invite you to connect with all the different ways you participate in the act of birthing, and that you honour all the varied forms this new life can take. Haumea teaches us that the mother archetype is never solely the province of those culture labels ‘mothers’."

OOLS Thealogy

Monday, 12 April 2004 11:54 | Written by OOLS | PDF Print E-mail

The thealogy of the Order, at its simplest level, is as follows:

  • Goddess is Love and everything implied by love; nurturing, physical pleasure, creativity, relationships, the senses, and emotion.
  • Goddess is Power. She is energy, movement, and the ability to act.
  • Goddess is the trinity of Maiden, Mother, and Crone. This is function, not chronology. She is gift and blessing for us no matter where we are on life's journey.
  • Goddess is Nature. She is everything that is beautiful and also everything wild, dark, and destructive.
  • Goddess is the Universe. Every God is born of Her, just as every man is born of woman.
  • Goddess is Darkness. She is source and conception, the womb and tomb. She is also the endless cycle of return, the light that is born from darkness.
  • Goddess is Emmanent, the spark of divinity within all creation.
  • Goddess is Immanent, existing beyond us, "All that ever was, is, or will be". She is the transcendent Unity at the heart of all things.
  • She bears all names and no name, our eternal "Ma".
