Goddess Circle #220 - Haumea
Join the OOLS on Monday, May 13, 2013 as we celebrate the Polynesian Goddess Haumea. As the Goddess of birth and fertility, she taught women how to give birth.
Haumea became the Hawaiian people's divine midwife and the mother of the Hawaiian people. She was able to give birth from all parts of her body suggesting her overwhelming fertility. Ageless and ever-renewing, Haumea teaches us how to give birth to the powerful stories of our own lives.
As Dr. Amy Palko tells us "To give birth is, perhaps, the most sacred act we can perform in this lifetime. Bringing into the world new life is truly a gift of the goddess. And yet, we so often perceive of this new life in very narrow terms.
"In this story of the divine midwife, I invite you to connect with all the different ways you participate in the act of birthing, and that you honour all the varied forms this new life can take. Haumea teaches us that the mother archetype is never solely the province of those culture labels ‘mothers’."

The Goddess Worship Service meets on the 2nd Monday of every month at Crone’s Hollow, located at 2470 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84115. The Service starts at 7:30 p.m. (but it's best to get there 15 to 20 minutes earlier for a good spot). Allow a couple of hours for ritual; we also have a social time afterward to give everyone a chance to talk to one another, make friends, eat munchies, ask questions, and/or peruse the Community Information Table.
